Release - 6/7/2021

The time has come to release the source code for BloogBot into the wild.

I've gone back and forth on this since I started this project. One one hand, I wanted to encourage others to learn the hard way, by figuring the details out themselves. It truly is the best way to learn. And I also wanted to respect the hard work of the many private server admins out there. The last thing thing they need to deal with is more bots.

But there are also a lot of cool features that I've added, which I haven't had a chance to write about. And I still have this voice in the back of my head that won't ever be satisfied until I get his out of my system. And quite frankly, I'm ready to move on to other projects. So to finally get sense of completion, I'm sharing the complete source code. I've poured so much mental energy into this project that the code is very special to me, and it feels a bit weird releasing it to the public. But I do think it's the right thing to do.

I started this project over four years ago, and it has been quite the journey. I've learned more here than anything I've done in my professional software development life. I have a feeling I'll always come back every once in a while to poke around at the source code. But in the mean time, nothing would make me happier than seeing others contribute back to the repo, so please do so!
